The term “loose skin” describes the extra or sagging skin that is left behind after significant weight loss or a decrease in body fat. Because of its lack of elasticity, it could look wrinkly or flabby.

It is commonly observed in people who have lost a lot of weight quickly or substantially, such as those who have had bariatric surgery or who have lost a lot of weight via diet and exercise.

In the lower abdomen area, loose skin is most common. You may also have noticed it under your arms or legs. The simplest way to avoid loose skin is to lose weight slowly. Surgery is necessary to fix severely loose skin.

Typically, loose skin looks like a thin layer of sagging fabric that hangs or bunches on the body.

Fat, also known as adipose tissue, is a natural component of the human body and many other organisms.

It is an energy-storing tissue that regulates body temperature, offers insulation, and cushions and protects important organs.

Fat is made up of specialized cells called adipocytes, that keep energy in the form of triglycerides. Triglycerides is bound of three fatty acids attached to a glycerol molecule.

When the body requires energy, hormones command the release of triglycerides from fat cells that have been stored there. These triglycerides are subsequently broken down into fatty acids and glycerol, which can be metabolized into energy.

What is the Difference Between Loose Skin and Fat?

Loose skin is the skin that remains after a significant weight loss or pregnancy, whereas fat is extra subcutaneous fat that is present all over the body under the skin. So, the main difference between fat and loose skin is this.

In addition, fat cannot be easily gripped, but loose skin may be easily squeezed and pulled outwards. Thus, this is still an important difference between fat and loose skin. Additionally, you cannot reduce loose skin by exercising cardio, but you may reduce fat by burning through cardio.
